We have moved our premises after 12 years at Henry Rose Place Albany - to a brighter shinier new premises at 9A Airborne Road Albany! Our showroom in Henry Rose is still available to be visited if you call us on 09 448 5728 we'll pop down and meet you there. In the meantime our new showroom is developing nicely and we are expecting our opening date to be week ending the 23rd of September. Bigger, and more comprehensive the new showroom is a clear winner - we can't wait for you to come and see us there!
The building activity (as we see it) is strong and the Xmas rush appears to be starting really early this year! There is super high demand for our American Hardwoods such as Prime Grade American Oak - so if you have a big job looming you have to get in quick and place your order - it's first in first served as far as ordering your timber and demand is high for our suppliers. So if your project MUST be done by Christmas then you MUST get to booking it in now!
OR - January and Febuary is a fantastic time to start your project, easy to book in, and no traffic for the Tradies' - so much easier to complete your job with no stress for everyone. Not the end of the world if the floor isn't finished for Christmas - most folk have enough Champers and Strawberry cream meringue to end up not noticing whether or not there is floor...or walls! After all it's the company we keep that makes Christmas....Christmas.
Building Consent data continues to be positive and so we all should see good business going forward.
The supply chains for Flooring stocks are in reasonable shape. There is 150x25 Kwila T&G arriving at the suppliers in the next 10 days, after delays in getting more. Getting 200x25 White Oak for flooring remains a difficult ask. Prices are steady and not a lot of prime grade wide White Oak around. The 150x25 white Oak is not so bad, but the exchange rate is a killer.
There will be a few price changes for projects finishing nearer to the beginning of October. 128x19 white oak may drop slightly and 172x19 may go up slightly. If the dollar continues to fall we will see further price increases.
Lead times are running out to 4 weeks, please give us time and confirm your time frame at your earliest convenience! It makes all our lives easier. Also a plea to decide on all the area's you need before the timber order is made, as topping up orders when lead times are longer puts us and suppliers in a bit of a pickle and involves a set up cost to the customer. If your not sure about timber in wardrobes - and that extra room, we encourage you to make your decisions early in the piece as it is very busy out there - and we don't want your job to be held up for any reason! Lead times are longer for Parquet and because it's a sweeping new trend do please place your order at your earliest convinience. We are doing some fantastic jobs - keep an eye on our facebook page for our updates on latest flooring trends.
Well we are halfway through the year already - seems like madness! Time to start decorating for christmas?! July was a busy month with the trades all being pretty flat tak. The demand for middle and top end work has been seen to increase with the lower end of the market dropping off.
The falling dollar has an impact on imported timber so Oak will be costing a little bit more in the foreseeable future.
Victorian Ash is good buying at the moment with American Oak looking slightly higher than usual. American White Oak is still our largest selling timber although Red Oak is a cost effective option when considering an Oak floor - especially if you intend to colour it. NZ natives are still popular.
Flooring sales continue to strengthen and we are seeing ongoing strong demand for American White Oak such a great looking and beautiful timber. A reminder that Red Oak is on offer as a better value Oak floor option for those that want Oak but don’t have the budget.
On the engineered flooring front, there are some new and exciting products being seen in the market around Engineered Flooring some very trendy options becoming available. We have a good supply of an unfinished engineered product 189 x 21 with a 6mm wear layer meaning it can be coated as your specifications, perfect for development projects or homes. If Engineered is a consideration it can be wise to choose a product that can be re-sanded such as this one, and coloured according to the latest trends and updates.
Business is busy and steady for us and our suppliers. The latest batch of Building Consents data released last week points to continued stronger demand for most of us. The trends are positive and we all enjoy forecasting for growth.
Growth means extra demand on us and our Timber suppliers. White Oak for example takes 6-8 months to get to our supplier. Once the supplier gets the timber it normally requires some kind of processing and White Oak requires profiling - again a lead time applies.
Stocks are in great shape and we can offer RED OAK again at better prices than white oak - check it out. Any queries give us a call at 09 4485728 or 0212410099
